Your provider can host today's account without owning tomorrow's access to your past.
Email providers are excellent at operating active accounts. That does not mean the same account should be the only durable home for a decade of history. AtArchive gives supported historical records a separate place to persist, search, and inspect.
Provider independence means preserving a copy of supported history under AtArchive's archive model while leaving the live provider account untouched. It does not mean AtArchive replaces Gmail or Outlook as an active email service.
Why an independent history matters
The value appears when the account changes.
Account closure stops being an archival emergency
If the history already exists independently, closing or downgrading the live account is no longer the first time you think about preservation.
Search is no longer limited to the provider's interface
The archive can optimize around historical recall, people, organizations, attachments, and context rather than active-inbox workflows.
Your past survives the next provider decision
A future migration, pricing change, lockout, or product redesign does not have to determine whether your old record remains usable.
What is independent today
Provider independence here means preserving supported history without claiming to mirror every byte from every provider.
- Supported historic email ingestion from Gmail/Google Workspace and Microsoft 365/Outlook.
- User-controlled archive surfaces, export direction, disconnect, and deletion are part of the control model.
- See Trust & Security and Data Control for current security, deletion, retention, and model-processing details.
Independence is not invisibility
AtArchive is still a cloud service and still depends on its own infrastructure and policies.
- Do not read 'provider-independent' as 'offline only.'
- AtArchive cannot recover a source account you no longer control.
- Provider authorization is used to ingest supported sources; it does not transfer ownership of third-party records.
